This painting captures a moment suspended in time, (much like the resin it’s named after) a natural way of preserving the fleeting. It's also named after traffic lights, its an urban color that signals hesitation, but also readiness—a quiet defiance in the face of uncertainty. It emphasises the beauty of pausing to gather strength, and of facing apprehension head-on. I wanted to paint hesitation not as weakness but as power; a deliberate act of choosing how to move forward. It features the Adrinkra symbol 'Hwehwemudua', which represents excellence, perfection, and critical examination.

LUDO GIRLS.

The "LUDO GIRLS." series draws inspiration from the classic game of Ludo, which we played often in my grandmother's house in Ghana. Ludo is largely  game of luck, where the goal is to go around the board and return home; for me it is reminiscent of the diasporan experience. Each painting in the series represents one of the four corners of the Ludo board, with distinct colors symbolizing individual journeys and identities. When displayed together, their differences are very clear, but when viewed separately, what stands out is how much they have in common—a reflection of the shared threads within diasporan stories.

This series speaks to the interplay of luck, identity, and the desire to find home. It's as much about individual uniqueness as it is about collective experience.
